Uncontrollable Affection

Uncontrollable Affection

In this sermon on Genesis 45, the story of Joseph’s emotional reunion with his brothers reveals the power of forgiveness, repentance, and God’s providence. Reflecting on Joseph’s journey from betrayal and slavery to reconciliation, we explore three themes: the Father we’ve always longed for, the brother we thought we’d lost, and the brother we’ve always needed. Through Joseph’s forgiveness and Judah’s self-sacrificial substitution, we see a foreshadowing of Christ, the true and better Brother who takes our place to restore us to God. This message challenges us to view our suffering through God’s purposes, choose reconciliation over vengeance, and become agents of healing in a broken world.

Sermon preached by Peter Tepper on 16 August 2026 at St Peter the Fisherman, New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
